''FOS, MOS, essential fatty acids & antioxidants'' - What are they?

Fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS): FOS are vegetable fibres such as inulin derived from chicory root. They serve as a nutrient substrate for beneficial intestinal bacteria such as lactobacilli and bifidobacteria. Accelerated multiplication of these bacteria promotes nitrogen binding and the excretion of harmful digestive end products. FOS in pet food helps to maintain a healthily balance in the bacterial colonisation of the intestine.

Mannan oligosaccharides (MOS): These are obtained from yeast cell walls. They are known as complex carbohydrate compounds on account of their structure. MOS naturally stimulate the body's immune system. They block the attachment of harmful bacteria to the intestinal wall and support the proliferation of healthy intestinal bacteria such as lactobacilli. Regular intake of MOS helps to maintain a healthily balance in the bacterial colonisation of the intestine.

Essential fatty acids: These are also referred to as vital fatty acids. They have to be ingested in food because the organism cannot produce them in sufficient quantity. Linoleic acid and also omega-3 fatty acids are especially important for dogs if there is an increased need.

Natural antioxidants: Selected dietary components with high antioxidant potential complement each other synergistically and effectively contribute to cell protection. In disease states and in particular metabolic situations, a dietary supplement can help to meet the increased demand for antioxidant substances and to better protect the organism from harmful metabolic end products.

L-carnitine: This plays an essential role in the energy metabolism of muscle cells. The naturally occurring substance has the characteristics of a vitamin and is needed for the transport of the fatty acids into the cell interior. The energy now released in the metabolic process enables effective muscle work. The heart muscle also obtains its energy in this way. Regular and efficient muscle work promotes good physical condition and general fitness.
