Why are vitamins important?

Vitamins are organic compounds that are not needed by the body as an energy source, but for other vital functions. Since some of the vitamins cannot be produced by the body in sufficient quantities, dietary intake is very important to meet the needs of the metabolism.

Vitamin A, for example, supports healthy skin and mucous membranes, but also vision and even growth. Vitamin D controls the absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the intestine and thus bone mineralisation. Vitamin E is a cell protection vitamin that supports the immune system and the skin, as well as being conducive to blood formation and fertility. Vitamin K helps the body to clot and build up bone.
