Bones & Joints

In terms of bones and joints, the basic requirements include a high-quality, wholesome diet and the supply of all nutrients required for healthy development and strengthening of the musculoskeletal system: protein for the muscles, carbohydrates for energy and motivation, fats for endurance, calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D for bone structure and trace elements for joint function.

The diet has to fit with the particular stage of life and condition of the animal. That’s why Vet-Concept has developed special formulas for puppies, adults and also older dogs, which provide the best possible support for the musculoskeletal system. In cases of illness or age-related physical decline an additional feed can be used, for example using New Zealand green-lipped mussels or omega-3 fatty acids from salmon oil.

Puppies & junior dogs: Growth is the biggest challenge for the bones and joints of younger dogs. It is especially important for the musculoskeletal system of larger breeds to hold out at this stage. An oversupply of energy can increase the speed of growth excessively and lead to serious, and often, long-term damage to the bones and joints. A well-balanced puppy feed with the correct nutrients, given in the correct quantity, is the most important factor to ensure your young pet leads a long and happy life. Selected feed supplements can also help to overcome periods of particular stress and difficulty.

Adult dogs: The basic priorities for healthy bones and joints include a balanced diet and a suitable exercise programme. Too much weight can cause just as much damage as excessive exercise. If you have specific demands to help support your dog’s muscular system, then Vet-Concept dietary supplements will be able to help you every step of the way, with nutrients designed to help joints, which will provide protection and help with regeneration.

Older dogs: Chronic illnesses and physical decline can make it hard for the bones and joints to cope in old age. This can often reduce the urge to move, which in turn results in a lack of activity and less vitality. If you sense that your dog is less mobile and energetic, it’s often possible to counteract with the right mix of dietary supplements. For example, devil’s claw can relieve pain and reduce inflammation, and essential fatty acids have the capability to support cell regeneration. Whilst mussel extracts and seaweed meal are supposed to sustain the muscles.

For joint issues we can recommend further delicious premium products, preferably with the addition of some New Zealand green-lipped mussels. A daily supplement of Lachs-Hanf-Öl is also a good solution. The essential fatty acids found in the oil, particularly the omega-3 fatty acids, can reduce susceptibility to inflammation in the joints.
