Heart & Circulation

Heart problems are serious systemic illnesses. They are often not isolated occurrences and appear in connection with underlying diseases of the kidney and thyroid, or with infections. The result: your cat becomes weak and loses its appetite and urge to play.

If your cat has been diagnosed with a heart problem, then its diet needs to fit with this. An easily digestible diet with limited sodium content (and therefore rich in taurine and L-carnitine) is perfect.

Excess weight adds extra stress to the weak heart and every effort should be made to shed this weight in cases of heart failure. It’s also advisable to spread the daily feeds over multiple small portions, as an overly full stomach limits the heart spatially.

Cats with severe heart problems often suffer from a lack of appetite. This makes a particularly tasty diet even more important.

Essential fatty acids and anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids are tried and tested for heart problems and should be included as part of the feed in sufficient amounts.

  • Suitable nutrition can provide excellent support during treatment.

  • The aim should always be a normal weight in order to reduce the burden on the heart muscle.

  • Only feed small portions at a time to make sure the available space for the heart is not limited.
